Hastelloy B is a nickel-based high-temperature alloy composed of nickel, molybdenum, cobalt and other elements. The nickel content of Hastelloy B is about 62%. Hastelloy B is widely used in chemical industry, petrochemical, energy manufacturing and pollution control fields, especially in industries such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, and acetic acid.

Hastelloy B has the following characteristics

By controlling the upper content of Fe and Cr, the formation of ni4mo in the beta phase can be prevented.

It has excellent corrosion resistance to reducing environments.

It has good tolerance to moderate concentrations of sulfuric acid and many non-oxidizing acids.

Good resistance to chloride reduction stress corrosion cracking (SCC).

Excellent resistance to corrosion of various organic acids.

 

Metallographic structure of Hastelloy B

Hastelloy B has a face-centered cubic lattice structure. At 700 to 870°C, by controlling the Fe and Cr content, the processing brittleness is reduced and the precipitation of the ni4mo phase is prevented.

 

Corrosion resistance of Hastelloy B

The carbon and silicon content of Hastelloy B is very low, reducing the precipitation of carbon and other impurities in HAZ. Therefore, the weld of Hastelloy B has sufficient corrosion resistance. Hastelloy B-2 has good corrosion resistance in reducing media such as hydrochloric acid solutions at different temperatures and concentrations. It also has good corrosion resistance in medium-concentration sulfuric acid solution (or contains a certain amount of chloride ions). It can also be used in acetic and phosphoric acid environments. Only in pure state can the corrosion resistance of the alloy reach ***.
